The Big Red women's swimming & diving team combined for a runner-up performance at the Kenyon Swimming and Denison Diving Relays on Saturday. Denison totaled 108 points, trailing the first-place Ladies by 20 tallies.
In the diving competition held at the Trumbull Aquatics Center, the DU diving tandem of Sarah Lopez and Katherine Hennigan swept the one and three-meter boards on Saturday afternoon. Lopez and Hennigan finished first with a combined score of 385.65.
Lopez's 1-meter total of 214.85 ranked second overall behind Kenyon's Maria Zarka, while Hennigan (170.80) landed in sixth place. In the 3-meter event, Hennigan (181.40) and Lopez (174.95) combined for another win with 356.35 points after finishing fourth and fifth overall. Zarka posted the highest six-dive total with 221.65 points.
In the swimming events at Kenyon, sophomore Carolyn Kane led the Big Red with five second-place performances. Kane opened the event with a runner-up performance in the 200 medley relay (1:47.96) alongside Marissa Bednarek, Ashley Yearwood and Rima Jurjus. The sophomore followed that up with another second-place swim in the 200 back relay (1:47.99) with Leigh Hartog, Molly Willingham and Yearwood.
After taking an event off, Kane returned to the pool with Jurjus, Willingham and Campbell Costley to post a time of 4:35.33 in the 500 crescendo relay. Kane, Yearwood, Hartog and Costley were second in the 200 fly relay after touching in at 1:46.35. Kane finished out her string of runner-up performances in the 400 IM and 200 free relay events. Kane, Michelle Howell, Bednarek and Hartog combined for a time of 4:04.72 in the 400 IM relay, while Kane, Jurjus, Yearwood and Costley checked in at 1:38.20 in the 200 free event.
The final event at the annual Kenyon Swimming Relays was a co-ed 200 medley relay. The Denison team of Kane, Damon Rosenburg, Yearwood and Conrad Wuorinen posted the second-fastest time after checking in at 1:40.74.
DU returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 25) when they welcome the University of Chicago to the Trumbull Aquatics Center. Events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
