Late goal propels Denison past Wooster

Box Score

Anne Denz's goal in the 78th minute broke a scoreless tie and sent Denison to a 1-0 victory over The College of Wooster.  The victory was an important one in the NCAC standings as the Big Red improves to 3-2 in league play, while Wooster dips to 2-2-1.

Denison would outshoot Wooster 21-4 in the contest and the ball would finally find the back of the net on DU's 20th shot attempt as the NCAC's current assist leader, Andrea Witte, crossed the ball to Denz who converted her second goal of the season and the second game-winning goal of her career.

Two minute before Denz's goal, Hannah Randolph sent a shot that would have to be saved by Wooster's Elizabeth Clark.  DU's Meg Wozniak would end up attempting nine shots for Denison, three of which were on-goal resulting in saves by Clark.

One of Wooster' best chances of the second half came in the 70th minute when Liz Kantra's shot was saved by Denison keeper Jenny Herold.   There were seven corner kicks attempted in the match, with Denison taking four.

Herold would go on to post three saves while Clark finished with eight for The Fighting Scots.  Wozniak led all players with nine shots while Denz followed with four and Witte took three.

With the win, Denison moves to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in the NCAC while Wooster drops to 8-6-1 and 2-2-1.  The Big Red will travel to Delaware, Ohio for a 7 p.m. kickoff against Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday (Oct. 22) before returning home next Saturday (Oct. 25) for a senior day match-up with Case Western Reserve at 5 p.m.
