Success on Chadwick Court continues for DU men

Box Score

In what is annually one of the team's longest road trips, the Big Red never appeared road-weary as they left Crawfordsville, Ind. with a 71-54 victory over Wabash College.  Denison has now won three of its last four games on Chadwick Court.  They have also moved to 6-7 on the season following today's victory.

The two teams traded blows in the opening minutes but with 16 minutes left in the first half, a 3-pointer by Brad Woolard put the Big Red on top 10-8.  They would not relinquish the lead over the final 36 minutes of play.

Denison led 39-25 at the half and pushed its lead out to 15 points with 17 minutes to play after a triple by Darius White.  Wabash would counter with a 15-6 run that cut the Denison advantage to just seven at 51-44 with 10:17 to play.

The game's biggest shot would come from reserve 3-point specialist Robby Weingart who drilled his second long ball of the game with just over nine minutes to play, giving his team its double-digit back for good.

Over the last eight minutes of the game, Wabash failed to generate any momentum as Denison answered at every turn.  Senior Alex Longi was outstanding, finishing with a team-high 19 points in 34 minutes while adding four rebounds and four assists.

Woolard followed with 11 points while going 5-of-6 from the field.  He also led the team with five rebounds.  DU shot 44 percent from the field and held a 37-34 advantage on the glass. Weingart matched his season high with 10 points.

Wabash got 18 points from Daniel Purvlicis and 16 points from Ross Sponsler.  The Little Giants drop to 3-9 overall and 2-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while the Big Red move to 6-7 and 2-4 in league play.  DU will return to Granville for a home game on Wednesday (Jan. 15) against Kenyon College.  Tip-off is schedule for 8 p.m.
