Box Score Anne Mitchell's goal in the 67th minute sent regionally-ranked Centre College to a 1-0 victory over Denison on Saturday afternoon in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels held a 6-1 advantage in shots in the opening 45 minutes of play, but senior goalie Andrea Karl kept the score tied at 0-0 after stopping both shots on goal. In the second half, Centre capitalized on its first shot of the period when Mitchell scored off a Shelby Ratcliff corner kick at 66:42.
Karl stopped the next three shots on goal to keep it a one-goal contest, but the Colonel defense did its job and help the Big Red to just two shots, neither of which made it on goal.
First-years Shelby Jude and Anne Denz logged DU's two shots on the day, while Karl finished the day with five stops in goal. Mitchell posted a game-best four shots, including the game winner. Olivia Alford picked up the victory after pitching a shutout in the second half.
Denison falls to 3-4 on the year, while Centre improves to 6-3. The Big Red returns to action on Wednesday when they host Earlham College at Barclay-Thomsen Field. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
