Bats sizzle in win over Bluffton

Denison pounded out 21 hits en route to a 14-4 victory over Bluffton University from Big Red Field in Granville, Ohio.

Six members of the Big Red logged three or more hits on the night.  After taking a 5-0 lead through the first three innings, DU broke through with a six-run fourth inning thanks to an RBI single by Ryan Loehnert, a two run double by Ryan Mulligan and a bases-loaded triple by Tim Duxbury that plated Jake Meegan, Lowell Hall and Mulligan.

Loehnert led all DU hitters, going 4-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs.  Danny Kraus was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs.  Denison's other three-hit performers were Meegan (3-for-4, 3 runs, 1 RBI), and Mulligan (3-for-5, one run, two RBIs).

Seven Denison pitchers combined to allow only three hits and no earned runs in nine innings pitched.  Ian Barry got the start and pitched the first two innings, allowing one hit while facing seven batters.  He earned the victory, moving to 1-2 on the season.  Kyle Colgain, Connor Murphy, Georgie Montes, Kraus, Loehnert, and Philip Seay also pitched at least an inning for the Big Red.

For Bluffton (9-6) they were led at the plate by Jake Townley who was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.  Starting pitcher Brad Schlabach suffered the loss.  He pitched two innings, allowing eight hits and four earned runs.

Denison improves to 5-6 on the season and 3-on at home in 2013.  They will open North Coast Athletic Conference play this weekend at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.  The four-game series will open on Saturday at noon.
