The Denison men completed its domination over the competition at the 2013 Miami Invitational with a 1,116 point victory over the second-place Redhawks. Denison won five events on Saturday and set two more varsity records in the process. Overall, DU finished with 2,584 points while Miami posted 1,468. Third place belonged to Wright State with 1,297 while fourth was locked up by Division III Emory University with 1,293. Cincinnati followed in fifth while Division II Urbana checked in sixth.
The first record fell in the first event of the night as Sean Chabot, Damon Rosenburg, Andrew Rich and Ryan Fleming won the 200 medley relay in 1:28.65. That time was an NCAA provisional qualifying time and it broke the varsity record set last year by one one-hundredth of a second.
The night's second-record setting performance came from Rosenburg. In what was a breakthrough meet for the junior, Rosenburg broke the school record in the 200 breaststroke in preliminaries, touching in 2:01.37. He would place second in the finals with a swim of 2:02.75. DU was stacked in the event, placing six swimmers in the top-12 of the standings. After Rosenburg, Joe Brunk (2:04.29), Ben Snader (2:05.82), Al Nennig (2:06.31), and Gus Evans (2:07.28) occupied positions 6-9. Finishing 12th was Tim Smith in 2:09.44. Of the six swims, Nennig, Snader, Brunk and Rosenburg all posted 'B' cut times.
In the 100 freestyle, Maciel came away with a victory after posting a time of 45.29. Chabot was third in 45.47 while Fleming touched fourth in 45.50. All three times were 'B' cuts. In the 200 backstroke, Chabot came away with his fourth victory of the meet after hitting the wall in 1:48.38. Jackson Humphrey was third in 1:49.64 and first-year Jack Lindell was fifth in 1:51.20. All three of their times were NCAA provisional qualifying times.
Later in the night it would be Humphrey's turn to lock up an event title as he led a stable of six DU swimmers in the 200 individual medley. Humphrey won the race in 1:50.87 despite posting a faster time of 1:50.41 in preliminaries. Maciel checked in second in 1:51.01 and Lindell took third in 1:51.66. Senior Al Weik ended up fifth in 1:52.45, while Brunk and Fronk placed seventh and eighth, respectively. Both Brunk and Fronk logged better performances in the morning as Brunk posted 1:51.99 and Fronk swam a 1:51.83.
In the 100 butterfly, Rich was the runner-up after logging the fastest time in preliminaries at 48.76. In the final he finished in 49.23. Conrad Wuorinen placed seventh in 50.37, while Humphrey and Fleming ended up eighth and ninth, respectively.
Weik would post a time of 4:31.53 that landed him third in the 500 freestyle. Conner Downard took seventh in the event in 4:37.23 while P.J. Fallon ended up ninth and Cam Young took 12th.
In the final swimming event of the night, DU won the 400 free relay in 3:00.09. The relay was comprised of Maciel, Chabot, Fleming, and Fronk.
In the men's 3-meter dive, senior Connor Dignan qualified for the finals and placed fifth overall with a six-dive score of 340.55. In preliminaries, Max Levy placed 12th with a score of 274.20 while Brian Allen took 22nd with a total of 244.75.
Denison won five events on Saturday and won 12 of 20 events, overall. DU posted three varsity records, four meet records, and one national record in Friday's 100 breaststroke win by Rosenburg.
