Denison sits third at Miami Invite

Denison is in third-place with 814 points after the second day of competition at the Miami Invitational.  They trail only Miami University (1275), and Illinois (960.5).

First-year Carolyn Kane finished second in the 50 freestyle in 23.34. Ashley Yearwood and Morgan Nuess followed in 10th and 12th place, respectively.  Yearwood touched in 23.87 while Nuess clocked in at 24.03.

In the 400 medley relay, rookie Liz Kane teamed up with Marissa Bednarek, Krysta Garbarino, and Nuess for a second-place time of 3:46.93.

Junior Michelle Howell had a big morning in the 200 fly and the 400 IM.  In prelims she posted season-best 'B' cut times in both events.  In the 200 fly she posted times of 2:03.95 in the morning and 2:05.45 in the final which landed her in eighth place.  In the 400 IM, she put together a time of 4:23.18 in preliminaries and followed with a 4:24.49 in the final to finish third.

In the 200 fly, Krysta Garbarino and Emily Eiben placed 12-13 and finished with NCAA provisional times of 2:05.81, and 2:07.60, respectively.

In the 400 IM it was Libby Dalziel and Taylor Johns who landed in 14th and 15th place with 'B' cut times.  Dalziel touched in 4:31.39 and Johns finished in 4:31.53.

Leading off the night was Kane, Yearwood, Mary Van Leuven, and Nuess in the 200 free relay.  They took third in 1:33.58.  Kane would return with a fifth-place showing in the 200 free to lead a trio of top-7 finishers.  Kane's prelim time of 1:50.15 was a season-best.  She logged a time of 1:50.91 in the final.  Molly Willingham and Campbell Costley followed in sixth and seventh place.  Willingham touched in 1:51.47 while Costley trailed in 1:51.86.

Denison's night was rounded out by Natalie Lugg who placed seventh in the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.46.

Carrie Bookheimer competed in the 3-meter diving preliminaries along with Sarah Lopez.  Bookheimer posted a six-dive score of 152.50 to lead the Big Red.  Lopez checked in with a total of 142.55.   Denison will return to the Nixon Aquatic Center on Saturday at 9 a.m. for preliminaries.
