Big Red off and racing in Oxford

The Big Red women opened the Miami Invitational on Thursday night and sit in third-place through two events.  The Redhawks lead the field of seven teams with 278 points while Illinois sits in second-place with 195 points.  Denison is third with 173 points.  Fourth through seventh belongs to Cincinnati (136), Wright State (89), Emory (80), and Ball State (54).

In the 800 freestyle relay Campbell Costley, Carolyn Kane, Tully Bradford, and Molly Willingham finished second with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 7:25.79.  Willingham posted the best 200 free split in 1:50.68.  First-place in the event went to Illinois in 7:19.05.

In the mile, Taylor Johns led DU with a fourth place finish and a time of 16:51.08.  Costley, and Elizabeth Flaherty followed in 11th and 18th place, respectively.  Costley touched in 17:04.68 and Flaherty checked in at 17:36.73.  All three times were 'B' cut times.  Janet Watson rounded out the event with a time of 17:53.40 that was good enough for 22nd place.

Denison will return to the Nixon Aquatic Center on Friday at 9 a.m. for preliminaries.
