Denison routs Pioneers

The Denison women's swimming & diving team closed out October with a dominating 171-70 victory over Malone University at the Trumbull Aquatic Center on Saturday afternoon in Granville.

The Big Red was led by senior Natalie Lugg and junior Molly Willingham who each posted three victories against Malone.  The duo teamed up with sophomore Ashley Yearwood and freshman Carolyn Kane to win the first event of the day, the 200 medley relay, with a time of 1:48.94.  In addition to the relay win, Lugg also swept the breaststroke events.  The senior posted a time of 1:08.17 in the 100-yard event and touched in at 2:25.93 in the 200, setting a new Trumbull Aquatic Center record in the process.  The previous pool record of 2:26.54 was set by Ohio University's Tori Bagan on Jan. 12, 2013.

Willingham's other two victorious came in the 100 and 200 freestyle events.  The junior won the 100-yard race after clocking in at 53.70, while her time of 1:57.18 was the fastest in the 200 freestyle.

Yearwood and Kane were also among multiple winners with victories in the 100 back and 50 free, respectively.  Yearwood touched in at 59.95, while Kane, the reigning NCAC Swimmer of the Week, won with a time of 24.25.

The Big Red was the lone representative in the diving tank on Saturday afternoon.  DU freshman Morgan Christman won the one-meter event with a score of 206.93.  On the three-meter board, first-year Carrie Bookheimer posted the top score with 183.15 points.

Denison returns to action on Friday when they travel to Ohio State for a quad with the Buckeyes, Virginia Tech and Cleveland State.  Events are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
