DU drops road contest at Otterbein

The Denison women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 road match at regional foe Otterbein on Wednesday afternoon in Westerville.

After 28 scoreless minutes, the Cardinals tallied the first goal of the game in the 29th minute when Jillian Strimbu scored her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Madison Burchfield.  The Big Red recorded the only shot over the final 16 minutes of the first half, a header attempt by freshman Jessica Skelly in the 43rd minute.

Each team attempted four shots over the first 30 minutes of the second period before Otterbein doubled its lead on a goal by Erica Meier.  Meier's first of the year came off an assist from Burchfield.  DU finished the second half with eight shots, including three on frame, before the final whistle blew in the period.

Otterbein held a slim 13-11 edge in shots, including an 8-4 advantage in shots on net.  The two squads also combined for 11 corners and 14 fouls.

Junior Caitlin Cheverine and sophomore Andrea Witte each attempted three shots, while Logan Berlet and Anne Denz logged two shots apiece.  Senior goalie Andrea Karl made five saves, while Cardinal keeper Dana Strimbu made four stops.

Denison falls to 4-6 on the year, while Otterbein improves to 5-3-1.  DU resumes North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday when they host Hiram College at 1 p.m.
