Box Score Four players scored in double-figures as Denison pulled away from Oberlin College for a 77-62 victory in Granville.
The Big Red took its first lead midway through the first half and led by nine at the intermission, 40-31. With nine minutes to play in the game, the Yeomen cut the deficit to 50-47 after a basket inside by the 6'9" Randy Ollie.
At the other end, Briggs King knocked down a 3-pointer that would spark an 11-0 run for Denison. With 5:21 to play, DU found themselves with a 14-point lead and full control of the game. Over the final nine minutes of the contest Denison outscored Oberlin 27-15.
It was a balanced scoring effort from Denison who got 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists from junior Alex Longi. Dimonde Hale followed with 18 points and three assists while Brad Woolard added a career-high 13 points while going 5-of-7 from the field and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. King followed with 11 points and DJ Bridges chipped in a career-high seven points in 16 minutes off the bench.
Andrew Fox led Oberlin with 19 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. He was 9-of-13 from the field in his 33 minutes of action. Geoff Simpson followed with 17 points and six rebounds.
DU shot 51 percent from the field and was 16-of-24 (.667) from the charity stripe. They edged Oberlin on the glass, 31-29 and shot 5-of-18 from 3-point range. Oberlin shot 46 percent from the field and connected on 7-of-8 from the free throw line.
Denison improves to 6-12 overall and moves to 4-5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while the Yeomen drop to 4-14 and 2-7 in conference play. The Big Red will host Wabash College on Saturday (Jan. 26) at 3 p.m.
