ONU evens the season series

Denison suffered a 7-6 loss to Ohio Northern from Wander Field in Ada, Ohio on Thursday afternoon.

The win for the Polar Bears avenged an 11-6 loss to the Big Red on April 10 in Granville.

DU struck first, thanks to a Charlie Apfelbach RBI single in the top of the third that scored Andrew Mahle.

In the fourth, DU would add three runs after four hits and two errors by Ohio Northern.  Lowell Hall's base hit to center field scored Jeremy Tirado after he led off the inning by reaching on an error by the shortstop.  David Baskin followed with a single to right, scoring Drew Rice.

Georgie Montes kept the rally going with a single that forced the bases loaded.  With one out, Mahle's sacrifice fly scored Hall, giving DU a 4-0 lead heading to the bottom of the fourth.

In the home half of the fourth, ONU would strike back with four unearned runs after back-to-back errors by DU to open the inning put starting pitcher Kyle Colgain in a jam.  Three hits by the Polar Bears would tie the game, but Denison would respond in the fifth with a sacrifice fly by Hall, giving the lead back to DU at 5-4.

Three runs by ONU in the sixth and seventh innings put them on top by two runs.  In the ninth, DU would score its sixth run of the game and it's third via a sacrifice fly when pinch hitter Ryan Mulligan's fly ball scored Rice.

With two outs and Hall on second base, Polar Bear reliever Aaron Johnson got the final out for his first save of the season.

Rice went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Hall was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a walk.

Josh Murphy led ONU with a single, double and a triple.

Bratcher suffered the loss for Denison in two innings of relief while the win went to Logan Schwerer. 

Denison's Joro Forman pitched the final two innings, allowing one run off three hits. Denison's record drops to 10-23-1 while Ohio Northern improves to 11-18.  Denison will return to action this weekend with a four-game series against Wabash College.
