Homestand ends with Senior Day win

The 29th-ranked Big Red ended their five-match homestand with a 9-0 victory over The College of Wooster on Senior Day in Granville.

Seniors Tim Martin and Tom Cawood remained perfect on the year after a dominating 8-1 win at the second doubles.  With that victory, Martin logged his 65th career doubles win which moved him past former DU standout Cole Newman (1997-2000) as the program's all-time leader in doubles victories.

Seniors Tyler Cempre and Matt McErlean notched their 15th victory of the season following an 8-5 decision over Paul Thomas and Landon Moore at No. 1 singles.  DU completed the sweep with an 8-2 victory at the third flight by Juan Guerra and Grant Veltman.

For the first time this year, head coach Peter Burling's singles lineup featured all four seniors.  Cawood moved to 11-2 at the top flight with a shutout victory over Thomas, while McErlean posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Moore at No. 2 singles.  At fifth and sixth singles, Cempre and Martin both won in straight-sets.  Cempre topped Nick Biniker 6-0, 7-6 (7-3), while Martin defeated John Schulz with a pair of 6-1 scores.  Guerra and Casey Cempre also posted singles wins at the third and fourth flights, respectively.

Denison improved to 12-3, while the Fighting Scots fell to 6-10.  The Big Red closes out the regular season with a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference matches in Indiana this weekend.  DU will battle Wabash on Saturday at 2 p.m., while Sunday's match at DePauw is slated to start at 3 p.m.
