The fourth-ranked Kenyon Lords handed Denison a 6-3 loss on Thursday evening in Granville, Ohio.
Kenyon took a 1-0 lead following an 8-5 victory at the third doubles flight. However, responded with wins at first and second doubles to take a 2-1 edge heading into singles competition.
Seniors Tyler Cempre and Matt McErlean, ranked seventh in the central region, won their fourth-straight match and improved to 9-1 at the top doubles flight after an impressive 8-6 win over eighth-ranked Austin Griffin and Josh Stiles. At No. 2 doubles, seniors Tom Cawood and Tim Martin doubled up Tim Rosensteel and CJ Williams, 8-4. With the win, the DU duo improved to 7-0 on the year.
After the Lords regained the lead with singles victories at the fourth and second flights, freshman Grant Veltman tied the match at 3-3. Veltman picked up a straight-set win (6-3, 6-4) over Jake Matthews at fifth singles. Kenyon secured the win with decisions at third, first and sixth singles.
Denison falls to 11-2, while the Lords improve to 13-4. The Big Red returns to action on Saturday when they host 13th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University at 4 p.m.
