Big Red drops twinbill to No. 18 Tigers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The 18th-ranked Tigers completed the four-game sweep of Denison on Sunday afternoon.  DePauw took game one 18-5, and blanked DU 6-0 in the nightcap.

The Tigers exploded for 18-unanswered runs in the opening five frames, highlighted by a nine-run third inning.  The Big Red broke up the shutout bid in the sixth inning.  After reliever Conor Heneghan walked Ryan Mulligan, Dave Holmes and Justin Vaske to open the frame, junior Kyle Clemmenson belted a grand slam home run over the left field wall.  The homer was his third of the season and the first grand slam of his career.  Senior Kevin Bratcher suffered the loss after surrendering seven runs (six earned) on eight hits in two innings.

In game two, DePauw plated three runs in both the fourth and the ninth en route to the victory.  Tiger starter Hobs Donovan scattered just two hits with six strikeouts in the seven frames, while Alex Sroka and Joe Wojda allowed one and two hits, respectively, over the final two innings.  Big Red starter Tim Duxbury went the distance en route to the loss.  The junior allowed three earned runs on 10 hits with seven strikeouts.

Clemmenson posted three hits, four RBIs and a run scored in the doubleheader, while Jeremy Tirado went 4-for-6 and Charlie Apfelbach went 2-for-2 in game one.

Denison falls to 5-18 overall and 0-4 in North Coast Athletic Conference West Division play, while DePauw improves to 23-3 and 8-0 in league action.  The Big Red returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Case Western Reserve University.  First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
