The Denison men's tennis team picked up its ninth victory of the season following a 7-2 decision over 27th-ranked Kalamazoo College on Sunday afternoon.
The Big Red took a commanding 3-0 lead following a strong performance in doubles play. Rookies Grant Veltman and Casey Cempre picked up an 8-3 win at the third flight. Senior Tom Cawood and Tim Martin remained undefeated after logging an 8-3 decision at No. 2 doubles. DU completed the sweep with an 8-6 win by Tyler Cempre and Matt McErlean at first doubles. Cempre and McErlean's win came over the region's third-ranked team of Nate Eddy and Mark Denenfield.
Cawood, Tyler Cempre, Veltman and Andrew Marczak posted wins at first, fourth, fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Cawood, ranked 23rd in the region, improved to 11-2 in singles play following a straight-set (6-2, 6-3) win over 11th-ranked Eddy, while Cempre posted his eight-straight win (6-0, 7-6 [7-3]). Veltman and Marczak both logged three-set victories to close out the match.
Denison (9-1) returns to action on Monday when they host Division I Dayton. Match time is slated for 6 p.m.
