Box Score Eighth-ranked Denison scored the first nine goals of the game, opening North Coast Athletic Conference play with a 15-5 win over The College of Wooster.
The Big Red got a pair of unassisted first quarter goals from sophomore attack Eddie Vita and in the second quarter, Denison's offense accounted for six of the seven goals scored.
Vita led all scorers with five goals and one assist. In the third quarter he converted Denison's first extra-man goal of the game after receiving a pass from Alex Hardt.
Following Vita in the scoring column was Cory Couture and Hardt who each finished with two goals and one assist. Sophomore Chapin Speidel tallied a pair of goals while Zach Walsh, Davis Lukens, Nick Verklin and Mike Soumekh accounted for the remainder of the Big Red's goals.
Chip Phillips turned in another outstanding effort, winning 15-of-20 draws. He also added three ground balls. Sophomore Tommy Harrison paced the defense with five caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Wooster was led by Matt Ranck who scored three goals. Denison goalie Nick Petracca played 45 minutes and allowed two goals while posting three saves. Gregg Shannon played the final 15 minutes and notched two saves.
Denison improves to 7-0 on the season while Wooster falls to 4-5. The Big Red will return to action on Saturday (March 31) when they host Ohio Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
