Big Red rolls past Macalester

The Denison men's tennis team notched its fourth-straight victory following an 8-1 win over Macalester College on Wednesday afternoon in Hilton Head, S.C.

The Big Red took a 3-0 lead after a dominating performance in doubles competition.  The team of seniors Tyler Cempre and Matt McErlean doubled up Evan Elderbrock and Lewis Wilcox at first doubles.  The win upped their record to 9-1 and extended their current winning streak to eight-straight matches.

At the second flight, rookie Shankar Rajupet and senior Tim Martin posted an 8-3 decision over Chris Fowler and Stephen Tyndel.  DU completed the sweep when Grant Veltman and Juan Guerra defeated Max Edwards and Max Soghikian at No. 3 doubles (8-2).  Both DU teams captured their third-consecutive victories and fifth overall this season.

In singles play, senior Tom Cawood improved 7-2 following a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Fowler at the first flight, while first-year Casey Cempre won at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-4) over Elderbrock.  The win was Cempre's third-straight and moved his overall record to 7-1.

Also posting wins for Denison were Andrew Marczak at third singles (6-3, 6-3), Jeffrey LoDuca at the fifth flight (6-2, 6-0) and Graham Gettel at No. 6 singles (6-0, 6-2).  Marczak and LoDuca improved to 2-1 and 4-1, respectively, while Gettel registered his first collegiate victory.

The Big Red improves to 4-0 on the season, while Macalester falls to 3-6.  Denison returns to action on Thursday when they take on Kutztown at 2:30 p.m.
