The Denison divers are proving that they will be a force to be reckoned with as championship season rolls around. On Saturday it was first-year Connor Dignan who broke the Denison 11-dive record in the 3-meter with a score of 564.60. Remarkably, Gabe Dixson, who was last night's winner in the 1-meter dive, also broke the previous 11-dive mark of 541.35 set last year. He would finish second with a score of 551.55.
Both marks should be good enough to punch their tickets to Indianapolis for the NCAA Division III Championships in March. Also looking to qualify are senior Phil Meyer and first-year Connor Dorff. They finished third and fourth in the 3-meter with scores of 497.48 and 476.55, respectively.
In the swimming events DU got improved 'B' cuts from Brad Ratliff in the 400 IM (4:06.15), Michael DeSantis in the 100 backstroke (50.09), Damon Rosenburg in the 200 breaststroke (2:04.88), and Dan Hellman in the 200 fly (1:51.88).
In the 500 freestyle, a pair of DU swimmers upped their provisional times as Robert Lawley touched in 4:33.81 and Matt Montague checked in at 4:34.09.
Denison finished the Kenyon Invitational in second place with 428 points. Kenyon took first with 943 points. DU returns to action on Thursday at the 2012 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship in Canton, Ohio.
