Denison's men's swimmers and divers had a good night at the Kenyon Invitational on Friday. Gabe Dixson posted a new 11-dive school record in the 1-meter dive and two swimmers posted NCAA automatic qualifying times. With one day to go, the Big Red trail Kenyon 397-186.
Dixson led a group of five Denison divers that occupied the top-five spots in the 1-meter. Dixson posted a score of 526.58 to win the event by 50 points. Second-place went to Connor Dorff with 476.33 and Connor Dignan checked in at 475.43. Senior Phil Meyer placed fourth in 440.78.
Denison's top swims on Friday night came from Dan Thurston and Damon Rosenburg who posted 'A' cuts in the 400 IM and the 100 breaststroke, respectively. Thurston finished shut shy of his own school record in the 400 IM in 3:55.58 and Rosenburg posted a career-best time of 55.67 seconds in the 100 breast.
Four 'B' cut times were also logged by the Big Red on the night. Robert Lawley and Dan Hellman both improved their previous season best times in their respective events. Lawley posted a time of 15:46.22 in the mile and Hellman touched in 1:50.69 in the 200 fly. Two first-time NCAA cuts were recorded by first-year's Brandon Bryan and Matt Montague.
Bryan touched in 2:06.47 in the 200 breaststroke and Montague placed second in the 500 free in 4:34.19.
Denison will return to action on Saturday (Feb. 11) at 10 a.m.
