Denison leads Miami Invite

After two of three days at the Miami Invitational it is a pair of Division III powers that have risen to the top of the predominately Division I field.  The Denison Big Red lead the seven-team meet with a two-day total of 932.5 points while Emory University sits in second with 901.5 points.  Third place belongs to Cincinnati (806.5) while Miami (727), Western Kentucky (619), Wright State (567.5) and Urbana (165) round out positions four through seven.

On Friday in Oxford, the Big Red got five strong swims out of junior Sean Chabot.  Chabot posted victories and NCAA automatic cuts in the 200 freestyle (1:37.67) and in the 100 backstroke (49.09).  He also turned in a fifth-place showing in the 50 free with a time of 20.97, while swimming on the second-place 200 free relay and the third-place 400 medley relay.

Following Chabot in the 200 free was Carlos Maciel in fifth place with a 'B' cut time of 1:40.42.  Senior Quinn Bartlett placed second in the 100 back in 49.63, which was also an 'A' cut.  Junior Spencer Fronk placed ninth in 52.01.  In the 50 free it was Barlett who touched in 10th place in 21.12.

Two other 'A' cut performances were nailed down by Jackson Humphrey in the 200 butterfly and the 400 IM.  In the 200 fly he placed third in 1:50.19.  He won the 400 IM in 3:56.94, placing four spots in front of teammate Al Weik who touched in 4:04.46 for a provisional time.

In the 100 breaststroke it was Ben Snader who logged a 'B' cut with a sixth-place finish and a time of 57.53.  Snader also swam on the third-place 400 medley relay along with Bartlett, Humphrey and Chabot.  The foursome posted a time of 3:21.17.

In the 200 free relay it was Chabot, Bartlett, Ryan Fleming and Maciel who combined for a time of 1:23.07 and a second-place finish.

Elsewhere, at the Calvin Winter Invitational, the Denison divers landed four individuals in the top-seven of the men's one-meter dive on Friday night.  Gabe Dixson led DU with a second-place finish and an 11-dive score of 467.15.  Connor Dignan followed in third-place with a score of 465.45 while positions five and seven were held down by Ben Lewis and Connor Dorff, respectively.
