Relay win secures victory over Kenyon

The Denison 200 free relay team of Ashley Yearwood, Morgan Nuess, Alyssa Swanson and Molly Willingham defeated Kenyon by more than a second in the final event of the meet.  The result was a 149.5-147.5 come from behind victory for the Big Red on Saturday afternoon at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.

Denison trailed by three points heading into the final event and the Big Red's 11-points in the final race secured the team victory.

Overall, Swanson paced Denison with three victories.  Aside from the 200 free relay, Swanson posted a provisional qualifying time in the 200 freestyle in 1:53.40.  She returned to win the 500 free with a time of 5:07.39.  That bested teammate Mary Cullen who took second with a time of 5:12.33.

In the diving events, first-year Kelly Frazier posted a new 6-dive school record in the 1-meter with a score of 279.68 which placed her second in the event.  Kenyon's Maria Zarka won the 1-meter board with a score of 282.38.  Frazier would get some revenge in the 3-meter board, thanks to her winning score of 274.73.

In the 200 backstroke, first-year Libby Dalziel turned in a 'B' cut performance with a victorious time of 2:06.35.  Another 'B' cut time would be posted by sophomore Michelle Howell in the 400 IM.  Her time of 4:31.05 was also good enough for the win.

The win by Howell in the 400 IM was her second victory of the day.  She also won the 200 breaststroke in 2:27.26.  Denison's other individual event winner was Nuess who went 1-2 with teammate Mary Van Leuven in the 50 free.  Nuess turned in the winning time of 24.41 seconds.

Denison will return to action on Nov. 29 at the three-day Miami University Invitational.
