The Denison women's swimming & diving team suffered a 199-96 setback at Division I, Toledo on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Michelle Howell and the 200 freestyle relay team of Alyssa Swanson, Morgan Nuess, Mary Van Leuven and Molly Willingham posted victories to pace the Big Red. Howell posted a time of 4:35.35 in the 400 I.M., while the DU foursome combined for a time of 1:37.47.
In addition to the two victories, Denison also posted seven runner-up finishes against the defending MAC champs. Swanson took second in both the 200 and 500 free with times of 1:52.95 and 5:05.05, respectively. Howell touched in at 2:09.76 to finish second in the 200 fly, while rookie Claire Van Fossen was runner-up in the 100 fly with a time of 58.89.
Nuess and Willingham finished second in the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Nuess posted a time of 24.78, while Willingham clocked in at 53.85. In the 200 medley relay, the team of senior Lindsay Zeberlein, Howell, Van Fossen and Swanson combined for a time of 1:49.89.
The Big Red diving tandem of Kelly Frazier and Sterling Keiser each finished in the top 5 in both diving events. Frazier took third in the one-meter after compiling 249.9 points. She also took fourth in the three-meter event after totaling 236.7 points. Keiser posted a pair of fifth-place finishes at Toledo. The sophomore finished with 195.45 points in the one-meter and 190.5 in the three-meter dive.
DU returns to action on Friday when they travel to The Ohio State University for a 6 p.m. dual meet.
