Offense clicks in win over Hiram

Box Score

The Big Red exploded for a season-high five goals and Jocelyn Festle netted a hat trick as Denison rolled past Hiram, 5-0 from the Hiram Soccer Complex.

Denison has had its share of offensive struggles this season, but they found their stride against the Terriers this afternoon.  With just two matches remaining in the season, at 3-2-1 in league play, the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament is still very much within reach.

DU got on the scoreboard early when Libbie Randolph scored off an assist by Andrea Witte.  The Big Red would cling to that one goal lead until the 62nd minute when Witte scored an unassisted goal, her third of the season.

After the goal by Witte the floodgates would open as Festle knocked in three straight goals over the final 20 minutes of action.  Her first and third goals would come via assists from Witte, while Randolph assisted on the second.

Denison outshot the Terriers 20-2 as Festle paced the visitors with eight shot attempts.  Witte finished with six while Keara Kilbane put two shots on goal.

Andrea Karl played all 90 minutes in goal for DU but did not face a shot on goal. Hiram goalkeeper Kate Valatis posted seven saves in 90 minutes of action.

Denison improves to 4-9-2 while Hiram drops to 4-10-2.  They will close out the regular season next week with a road match at Ohio Wesleyan on Tuesday (Oct. 23) and at home against Oberlin on Saturday (Oct. 27).
