The Denison men's swimming & diving team tied rival Kenyon for first place at the Kenyon Swimming Relays and Denison Diving Relays on Saturday afternoon. The Big Red won four event titles and totaled 116 points.
DU posted four first-place finishes at the 10-event relay invitational hosted by the two rivals. The swimming events took place at the Kenyon Athletics Center while the diving relays were held at the newly opened Trumbull Aquatics Center on Denison's campus.
In the swimming portion of the event, the Big Red won both the 200 breast relay and the 1500 freestyle relay. Sophomore Ben Snader and Damon Rosenburg, junior Carlos Maciel and freshman Joe Brunk combined for a winning time of 1:49.51 in the breaststroke relay. Rosenburg posted the best time of the relay team after touching in at 26.97.
The DU trio of Al Weik, Nathan Thorne and Robert Lawley combined for a time of 14:11.18 in the 1500 freestyle event.
At the diving relays in Granville, senior Gabe Dixson, and sophomores Connor Dorff and Connor Dignan led Denison to the two-event sweep. In the one-meter event, Dorff and Dixson posted a combined 560.15 en route to a first-place finish. Dorff totaled 280.2 points, while Dixson scored 279.95.
Dixson and Dignan captured the three-meter title after compiling 644.05 points. Dignan led the way with 320.45 points, while Dixson chipped in 232.6.
The Big Red also posted five second-place finishes at the event. Jackson Humphrey, Maciel, Weik, and Quinn Bartlett posted a combined time of 1:36.94 in the 200 backstroke relay, while the team of Bartlett, Humphrey, Dan Hellman and Andrew Rich logged a time of 1:34.28 in the 200 butterfly event.
In the 500 crescendo relay, Ryan Fleming, Conrad Wuorinen, Maciel and Weik turned in a time of 4:10.88.
In the dive tank, Dignan and freshman Ben Lewis totaled 514.55 to finish second in the one-meter event, while Dorff and Lewis were runner-up in the three-meter with 516.1 points.
Denison returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 27) against Wabash at 1 p.m.
