Season opens with a win

There were six, multi-event winners for the Big Red as the Trumbull Aquatics Center era opened with a 198-47 victory over Malone University on Saturday.

In the first event in the new facility, Denison's 200 medley relay team of Lindsay Zeberlein, Marissa Bednarek, Claire Van Fossen and Alyssa Swanson won with a time of 1:49.62.

Bednarek, Van Fossen and Swanson would all win a second event on Saturday as Swanson took first in the 100 freestyle in 52.86.

Van Fossen was the winner in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.97 and Bednarek prevailed in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.62).

Sophomore All-American, Michelle Howell logged two wins in the 200 fly (2:11.68) and the 200 breaststroke (2:30.70) and newcomer Mary Cullen swept the distance freestyle events with a 5:15.93 in the 500 free and 10:35.58 in the 1,000 free.

In the diving events, first-year Kelly Frazier won the 1-meter and 3-meter events.  In the 3-meter she posted a six-dive score of 230.40.  In the 1-meter she posted a score of 261.98.

Rounding out the winners for Denison was Molly Willingham in the  200 freestyle (1:57.03), Morgan Nuess in the 50 free (24.60), and Elizabeth Dalziel in the 200 back (2:08.94).

Denison will return to action next Saturday at the Kenyon Swimming Relays and the Denison Diving Relays.  Live video of the Denison diving relays will be provided by the Denison Sports Network  beginning at 12 p.m.
