In the first official event at the brand new Trumbull Aquatics Center, the Denison men's swimming & diving team rolled to a 184-105 victory over NCAA Division II opponent, Malone University.
Nine individuals from Denison logged victories and five were multiple event winners. Jackson Humphrey won the 200 backstroke and the 200 butterfly with times of 1:55.85 and 1:55.63, respectively.
Carlos Maciel was the winner in the 200 freestyle (1:46.25) and the 100 free (48.38) while sophomore Damon Rosenburg was a part of the winning 200 medley relay with Quinn Bartlett, Andrew Rich and Conrad Wuorinen. Rosenburg also won the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.37.
Bartlett and first-year Nathan Thorne rounded out the two-event winners for DU. After Bartlett's win in the 200 medley relay, he took first in the 100 backstroke in 53.34.
In his first collegiate meet, Thorne won the distance freestyle events with a time of 10:01.17 in the 1,000-yard free and a time of 4:52.29 in the 500 free. Another rookie, Ryan Fleming, posted an impressive time of 21.90 in the 50-yard free to edge teammate David Hallman for the win.
In the diving events, senior Gabe Dixson won the 3-meter dive with a six-dive score of 344.85. Connor Dignan placed second with a score of 322.65.
Denison will return to action next Saturday at the Kenyon Swimming Relays and the Denison Diving Relays. Live video of the Denison diving relays will be provided by the Denison Sports Network beginning at 12 p.m.
