Denison suffers setback at OU

The Denison women's swimming and diving team opened 2012 with a 186-101 setback at Division I Ohio University on Saturday afternoon in Athens, Ohio.

Junior Alyssa Swanson and sophomore Natalie Lugg paced Denison with a pair of top-3 finishes.  Swanson finished runner-up in both the 100 (52.62) and 200 freestyle (1:52.63).  Lugg took second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:27.47 and third in the 100 breast after clocking in at 1:07.73.

Also recording second-place finishes were seniors Laurel Brabson, Brenna Broadus and Emily Schroeder.  Brabson finished the 200 fly in 2:07.10, Broadus clocked in at 58.22 in the 100 fly, and Schroeder turned checked in at 2:07.27 in the 200 back.  Other top three finishers were Sarah Yu in the 100 back, and Morgan Nuess in the 50 freestyle.  Yu touched in at 59.55, while Nuess posted a time of 24.47.

Katie Collins, Schroder, and the 400 free relay team of Broadus, Nuess, Marit Wangstad and Swanson all took home victories in the later stages of the dual meet.

Denison resumes North Coast Athletic Conference competition on Friday (Jan. 13) when they travel to Wittenberg for a 6 p.m. meet.
