Denison doubles up Grove City

The Denison men's swimming & diving team improved to 5-3 on the season following a 182-90 victory over Grove City on Saturday afternoon from Gregory Pool.

Senior Phil Meyer set a new six-dive school record in the 1-meter dive with a score of 325.12 which is also an NCAA qualifying score.  He was followed closely by Gabe Dixson (321.75) and Connor Dignan (313.50) who placed second and third, respectively.

First-year Damon Rosenburg turned in a solid time of 58.64 to win the 100 breaststroke, out-touching Ben Snader who clocked in at 59.65.

Senior Robert Barry locked up a win in the 100 backstroke in 49.72 and Quinn Bartlett took first in the 200 back in 1:50.55.

In the sprint freestyle events, Mike Barczak won the 50 free in 21.09 and Spencer Fronk was the winner in the 100 free in 46.52.  The 200 freestyle saw Sean Chabot top Carlos Maciel with a time of 1:42.21.  Maciel finished just over one second behind Chabot in the event but later in the meet, Maciel would get a victory in the 500 freestyle in 4:48.92.

The 200 butterfly belonged to Jackson Humphrey and his time of 1:55.60 and the 1,000 freestyle was held down by men's mile national record holder Al Weik who touched in 9:43.56 this afternoon.

In the first event of the day, the 200 medley relay, Barry, Snader, Barczak and Bartlett teamed up for a winning time of 1:33.88.  The final victory of the meet went to Brandon Ryan in the 200 breaststroke and his time of 2:10.86.

Denison returns to action on Friday (Jan. 27) in what will be the final meet in Gregory Pool.  Denison is in the midst of construction on a new natatorium that will be ready for the 2012-13 season.
