Early goal pushes Tartans past DU

Box Score

PITTSBURGH- Brianna Magill broke a scoreless tie in the 23rd minute and that would be enough to lead Carnegie Mellon to a 1-0 victory over Denison on Wednesday night.

Magill's goal came at the 22:56 mark in the first half and was scored after Elsa Wu threaded a through ball to Magill, who on her second touch, sent a ball to the opposite post.

Denison would have their best chance erased by Tartan goalkeeper Anna Albi in the 42nd minute when Lydia Harlan drove a low-liner into the arms of the sophomore keeper.  One minute later Harlan would strike again, this time Albi would deflect her scoring attempt to the far post.

Carnegie Mellon held a 10-9 advantage in the shot department and the Big Red attempted four corner kicks to the Tartans' two.  Denison goalkeeper Andrea Karl posted five saves while her counterpart, Albi, also notched five saves.

The loss drops Denison's record to 4-4-2 while CMU improves to 6-3-0.  Denison returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Meadville, Pa. for a noon kickoff against Allegheny.
