Box Score In a match that marked the first North Coast Athletic Conference contest of the season for the Denison Big Red as well as the first-ever NCAC match for DePauw, a Tiger goal in the 31st minute would propel the visitors to a 1-0 victory from Barclay-Thomsen Field.
In what was an evenly match contest, DePauw would break the scoreless tie with just over 14 minutes to play in the first half when Chloe Jacob settled a failed clear attempt by the Big Red. She gathered possession and sent a shot to the upper left corner of the goal. The shot was just the third of the afternoon for DePauw and their second attempt that landed on-frame.
In the second half, Denison would have their chances to score. Five minutes into the period, first-year Grace Cronin forced a turnover inside the box and sent a cross that just missed the head of senior Tory Danis.
Fast-forward to the 79th minute and a Denison corner kick attempt. After the ball was sent into play, the Tigers attempted to clear the ball out but Claire Hamilton was there with a shot attempt that forced DePauw goalkeeper Caroline Kerr to stretch to full extension to make the save.
Four minutes later, Clare Meernik nearly tied the match with a header that sailed just wide of the goal after a nice cross by Maddy Regan.
The two teams were mirror images on the stat sheet, with four shots apiece in the first half and seven shots apiece in the second half. Denison held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks and both goalkeepers posted four saves apiece for their respective teams. Lydia Harlan led DU with three shots while Sara Livingston and Regan each took a pair of shots.
Denison falls to 3-3-1 with the loss while DePauw improves to 3-3-1. The Big Red will return to action on Tuesday (Sept. 20) when they travel to Ohio Northern for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
