Box Score Junior Sara Livingston's goal in the 67th minute got No. 21 Denison back in the win column on Sunday in Granville. Denison controlled Adrian in a 1-0 victory at Barclay-Thomsen Field.
The Big Red dominated the time of possession in the first half as they spent the majority of the period in their offensive half. As a result, DU unloaded 13 shots at the Bulldog goal, while the visiting team failed to register an attempt in the opening 45 minutes. Two of Denison's 13 shots were turned aside by Adrian keeper Chayna Wallace, while a rocket shot by Lydia Harlan bounced off the crossbar in the 19th minute.
In the second half, the Bulldogs finally mustered some offense as they registered four shots in the first 15+ minutes of the period. Three of those four attempts were corralled by Denison goalie Andrea Karl.
At 66:43, the Big Red took the lead when Livingston regained possession of the ball just inside the offensive third. One-on-one with Wallace, the junior released a shot under the diving keeper and found the lower right 90 for her first goal of 2011.
Over the final 23+ minutes, the Denison defense completely shut down the Bulldogs as they tried to score the game-tying goal. DU outshot Adrian 19-4, and attempted seven corners compared to three by the visiting squad. The Bulldogs also committed 21 fouls, while Denison was flagged for seven infractions.
Both Karl and Wallace made three saves on the day. Harlan, Maddy Regan and Tory Danis all registered four shots for the Big Red.
Denison improves to 2-2-1 on the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 2-2. DU returns to action on Wednesday (Sept. 14) when they travel to Westerville for a key regional clash with second-ranked Otterbein University. Match time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
