DU opens season with win at OWU

First-year Amanda Castle fired a career-low 86 to help the Denison women's golf team open their season with a victory at the Ohio Wesleyan University Invitational on Saturday at Mill Creek Golf Club.  The Big Red set a new 18-hole school record after firing a 375 on the day.

Castle earned medalist honors after posting the fourth lowest 18-hole score in DU women's golf history, and the second-lowest by a first-year golfer.  In the program's inaugural season, rookie Megan Fleming shot an 84 at the Wilmington Invitational on Oct. 1, 2006.

Fellow first-year Stacey Adams also helped the DU cause by carding an 88 in her debut event with the Big Red.  Sophomore Carly Schultz and junior Elizabeth Tristano finished third and fourth on the squad to round out the scoring.

Denison returns to action on Sunday (Sept. 18) when they host the DU Invitational at Granville Golf Course.  The 18-hole event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
