Denison falls to Kenyon in NCAC finals

The Denison University men's tennis team suffered a 5-1 setback to seventh-ranked Kenyon College on Saturday in the championship match of the 2011 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.

After cruising into the title match with a pair of 5-0 victories, the Big Red were in a dog fight with the defending NCAC champions.  Juniors Matt McErlean and Tyler Cempre avenged an 8-1 loss in the regular season with an 8-6 win over Jeremy Polster and C.J. Williams at first doubles.  For the second time this season, the Lords' Austin Griffin and Paul Burgin edged the duo of Tim Martin and Jared Connolly, while Juan Guerra and Jay Fovel fell to Kevin Ye and Jake Matthews at the third flight. Ahead 2-1 following doubles, Kenyon won at first through third singles to secure the win.

The loss drops the Big Red's record to 13-8 while Kenyon improves to17-3 .  Denison will await word next weekend on a possible NCAA Division III Tournament berth.
