The Denison men's tennis team advanced to the 2011 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday at 11 a.m. after victories over Wooster and Allegheny on Friday from Hunsinger Courts at Oberlin College. The Big Red dispatched The College of Wooster, 5-0 in the first round before making short work of the Gators in the semifinals.
Denison's doubles teams of Matt McErlean and Tyler Cempre at No. 1, Tim Martin and Jared Connolly at No. 2 and Juan Guerra and Jay Fovel at No. 3 swept the compeition, resulting in six of the Big Red's 10 points on the day. Their singles wins went to Guerra and Evan Verbofsky against Wooster and Tom Cawood and Cempre versus Allegheny.
This is Denison's seventh-consecutive appearance in the NCAC Tournament Championship match. Since the tournament began in 1990 the Big Red have made 14 appearances in the title match, winning seven of those contests. The Big Red will take on Kenyon College in Saturday's title match at 11 a.m.
