Box Score Alex Thurner scored a season-high five goals and Grace Bodenmann posted 12 saves as the Big Red rolled to a 16-9 victory over Washington & Jefferson from Deeds Field-Piper Stadium in Granville.
The victory improves Denison's record to 9-4. It also moves their current winning streak to six games which is the longest winning streak by a Denison women's lacrosse team since 2005.
Denison earned the victory by taking charge early in both halves and by keeping W&J trio of goal scorers at bay.
In the first half the Big Red took a 6-0 lead thanks to four-straight goals by Thurner. Goals by Olivia Shiland and Molly Sbrega later in the half would send Denison into the second half with an 8-4 lead.
DU dashed the hopes of a Washington & Jefferson comeback early on after the Big Red scored seven consecutive goals over the first 14 minutes of the second half, pushing their lead out to 15-4.
Denison outshot their opponents 36-24 as Thurner paced the home team with five goals off eight shots. Shiland added three goals off six shots and Jenny Strathern notched two goals and three assists off six shot attempts.
Senior midfielder Lulu Carter scored twice and led the way with six ground balls. Carly Tschantz finished with six draws and five different Big Red players had at two caused turnovers.
Bodenmann was one-off her career high in saves with 12 after stopping five would-be goals in the first half and seven in the second half.
W&J was led in scoring by Brittany Fradkin who scored four goals off 10 shots.
Denison (9-4) will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Mount St. Joseph for a 7 p.m. start.
