The Big Red entered the 2011 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Indoor Championships ranked fifth in Division III and were seeded third overall in the tournament. They opened play from St. Peter, Minn. with a 6-3 victory over Washington & Lee in the quarterfinals.
The victory moves Denison on to the semifinals where they will take on the nation's No. 4 ranked team and the No. 2 seed of this tournament, The University of Chicago.
Denison took two of three doubles points thanks to an 8-2 win by Kristin Cobb (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) and Erin Chadwell (Hillsboro, Calif./Traverse City Central[Ill.]) and No. 1 doubles and an 8-4 win by freshman Kelsey Geppner (Ann Arbor, Mich./Father Gabriel Richard) and senior Sarah Short (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel) at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Chadwell picked up Denison's third point of the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over W&L's Lauren Lukas. At third singles, Short defeated Jen Snyder 7-5, 6-2 for the point and Cobb locked up the clinching point with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ellen Yeatman.
In the second singles session that was played at the indoor facility, Geppner defeated Chelsea Mixson, 6-0, 6-1.
Chicago topped Chapman, 7-0 this afternoon to advance to Saturday's semifinal against the Big Red. That match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. from the Swanson Tennis Center in St. Peter, Minn. Live Stats are being provided for all rounds of the tournament.
