The Denison women sit in second place through two events at the three-day Miami Invitational. DU trails only the host Redhawks who have totaled 196 points after the first night of competition. Only 50 points behind is Denison who has totaled 136 points. Wright State is third with 109 points followed by Emory (106), Cincinnati (100) and Southern Illinois (81).
Senior Hilary Callen paced Denison on Thursday with second-place finishes in the 1650 freestyle and as the anchor in the 800 free relay. In the mile, Callen posted a NCAA qualifying time of 17:07.33 to finish behind event winner Courtney Collett of Miami who touched in 16:47.67.
Also posting an NCAA cut was first-year Janet Watson who placed eighth with a time of 17:22.51. Rounding out the top finishers in the 1650 freestyle were Meghan Green in 17th place (17:57.59) and Elizabeth Flaherty in 19th (18:07.85).
In the 800 free relay, Alyssa Swanson, Molly Willingham, Marit Wangstad and Callen took second with an 'A' cut time of 7:25.80.
The Big Red will return to the pool in Oxford, Ohio on Friday morning with preliminaries beginning at 9 a.m. followed by finals at 6 p.m.
