Lords edge Big Red in dual

Add another nail bitter to the all-time series between the Denison and Kenyon men's swimming  & diving teams.  This time it was the Lords who defended its home pool, holding off Denison 131-112 in the two squads' annual dual meet from Gambier, Ohio.

Despite the loss Denison recorded six victories against the Lords, off which came after competing in a quad meet against Ohio State, Virginia Tech and Cleveland State the night before.

Sophomore Al Weik picked up wins in the 1000 freestyle and the 500 freestyle.  He was joined by Robert Barry who also recorded multiple victories in the 200 backstroke and in the 400 medley relay.

For Barry in the 200 back, his time of 1:50.72 was a season-best time and an NCAA provisional qualifying time.  The winning 400 medley relay comprised of Quinn Bartlett, Damon Rosenburg, Barry and Mike Barczak also posted a season-best and 'B' cut time in 3:25.68 to defeat Kenyon by five seconds.

In the dive competitions Denison's three-headed monster of Gabe Dixson, Connor Dignan and Phil Meyer continued to impress.  Dixson and Meyer both broke a previous six-dive school record in the 1-meter.  Dixson won the event with a score of 313.05 and Meyer was second with 305.70.  The previous mark was set by Stephen Julka at 299.35 in 2008.

In the 3-meter dive, Dignan posted a career-best score with a 339.75.  Dixson followed in second with 329.33.

Denison falls to 3-3 on the season and will take some time away from competition until the three-day Miami Invitational that begins on Dec. 1.
