Fighting Scots top Big Red

Box Score

The Denison volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 28-26) decision at the College of Wooster on Tuesday night in North Coast Athletic Conference action from Wooster, Ohio.

The Big Red rolled into Wooster short one offensive threat.  Last Saturday Lauren Gustafson, who ranks second in service aces and third in kills, suffered an ankle injury in the second set of DU's victory over Allegheny.

The Big Red played right with the Fighting Scots throughout the entire match.  In the third set, DU pushed Wooster to the limit before dropping a 28-26 decision.

The senior trio of Lauren Strowder, Megan Early and Kristen Hughes combined for 21 of Denison's 23 kills.  Strowder notched a game-high tying 12 kills and compiled a .440 hitting percentage, while Early finished with six kills and Hughes logged three finishers.  Senior setter Claire Koneval dished out 14 assists, while classmate Brittany Brannon served up two aces.  Defensively, Brooke Beavers had 23 digs, while Brannon posted 10 digs.  At the net, Early finished with three blocks, while Strowder and Hughes each had two.

The Fighting Scots were led by Zoe Zwegat's 12 kills and Lizzie Beal's 22 assists.  Kelley Johnson recorded 23 digs, while Zwegat posted four blocks.

Denison falls to 9-9 overall and 4-2 in the NCAC, while Wooster improves to 14-5 and 4-3 in league play.  DU returns to the court next Wednesday (Oct. 12) when they host Oberlin College.  Match time from Livingston Gymnasium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
