The Big Red moved to 2-0 in the young 2011-12 men's swimming and diving season following a 164-106 victory over Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at Gregory Pool in Granville.
Denison won each of the first 11 events while posted four season-best performances. Senior Robert Barry improved upon his previous NCAA provisional time of 51.05 in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.65. Barry also swam on the winning 200 medley relay with Carlos Maciel, Mike Barczak and Quinn Bartlett. The foursome posted a time of 1:36.18.
Gabe Dixson took first in the men's 3-meter dive with a six-dive score of 354.75 which is an NCAA qualifying performance and a new Denison school record. Connor Dignan also nearly broke the previous school record of 298.00 held by Cody Smith with his score of 293.33. Phil Meyer placed third with a score of 223.28.
Sophomore national record holder Al Weik notched a season-best in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:33.43 to win the event by nearly 40 seconds. Sean Chabot placed first in the 200 free in 1:44.92 and first-year Ben Snader won the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.74.
Another season-best swim was racked up by All-American Jackson Humphrey in the 200 fly. The sophomore won the 200 fly by four seconds with his time of 1:56.56. In the sprint freestyle events Spencer Fronk won the 50 free in 22.04 seconds and Barczak took the 100 free in 47.43 which was also a season-best time.
Denison's winners were rounded out by Bartlett in the 200 backstroke (1:53.40) and Brandon Bryan in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.84).
Denison will return to the pool on Friday when they take on Division I powers Ohio State, Virginia Tech and Cleveland State at McCorkle Aquatic Center on the campus of Ohio State University. The quad-meet begins at 6 p.m.
