Box Score Sophomore Jocelyn Festle's goal in the 27th minute helped Denison secure their first North Coast Athletic Conference win of the season over Kenyon, 1-0, on Wednesday.
After a strong offensive surge to open the game the Big Red drew first blood at 26:31 when Festle headed in a cross from first-year forward Grace Cronin. Cronin sent a near-side cross in from the right side that appeared to be tailing off goal. However, a diving Festle used her head to redirect the kick into the lower left corner.
DU entered the intermission with a one-goal lead and a 15-6 advantage in shots.
The Ladies' offense picked up the pace in the second half of play. In the first two and a half minutes, Kenyon unloaded three shots at the Big Red net. The offensive flurry was ignited by Caddie Durrett's shot that rung off the left post. Hague followed with an attempt that was saved at the goal line by rookie defender Gen Eng-Surowiec. Durrett's second shot of the series was punched over the crossbar by sophomore goalie Andrea Karl. Denison went on to outshoot Kenyon 7-3 after surviving the offensive flurry.
The Big Red finished the match with a 23-12 advantage in shots, while the Ladies attempted three more corners (5-2). Denison committed six fouls, compared to just four infractions by Kenyon. Karl made four saves en route to her seventh shutout of the season, while Lauren Wolfe had five stops for the Ladies.
Denison improves to 5-6-2 overall and 1-3 in the NCAC, while Kenyon falls to 9-4 and 2-2 in league play. DU returns to action on Sunday (Oct. 16) when they travel to Washington and Lee for a 1 p.m. match.
