Offense comes up dry in Meadville

Box Score

Allegheny College's Michelle Holcomb scored the game-winning goal in the 50th minute helping the Gators to a 1-0 victory over the Big Red in Meadville, Pa.

Denison got off to a fast start as first-year Lydia Harlan put two shots on goal in the opening 10 minutes of the contest.  Both shots from Harlan were saved by Allegheny goalkeeper Emily Karr who was on her way to a three save afternoon.

After heading into the intermission scoreless, Allegheny got on the board at the 49:36 mark when Holcomb posted an unassisted goal.  DU would take a pair of corner kicks over the final 35 minutes but none of the set pieces would result in a shot for Denison.

Allegheny outshot Denison 9-4 but DU held a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.  Big Red goalie Andrea Karl finished with three saves.

The win keeps Allegheny in first place in the North Coast Athletic Conference with a 7-3-1 overall record and a 2-0 mark in conference play.  The Big Red dips to 4-5-2 overall and 0-2 in league play.  DU will try and bounce back next Saturday (Oct. 8) when they host The College of Wooster at 1 p.m.
