Sophomore Alyssa Swanson (Aurora, Colo./Regis Jesuit) posted three victories and senior Ksenia Golovkina (Newton, Mass./Newton South) won twice but that wasn't enough for Denison to complete the upset against Division I foe, Ohio University. Powered by 12 wins, the Bobcats handed the Big Red a 170.5-125.5 loss on Saturday afternoon in Athens, Ohio.
Swanson logged her three victories in the 200 freestyle, the 100 freestyle and the 200 freestyle relay. In the 100 free she touched in 52.16 and in the 200 free she finished in 1:52.67.
Swanson also led off the 200 freestyle relay along with Lianne McCluskey (Hope, Maine/Camden Hills Regional), Natalie Lugg (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) and Golovkina. The foursome touched in 1:36.66.
Other notable performances came from Golovkina who matched her season-best time in the 200 breaststroke with a second-place finish and a time of 2:27.72. She also won the 100 breastroke in 1:05.07.
In the 100 backstroke, Lindsay Zeberlein (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) was the runner-up in 59.76 and in the 200 fly, Laurel Brabson (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) was touched out by one-tenth by Ohio's Amanda Cecere. Brabson's second-place time in the event was 2:07.82.
In both the one and three-meter dives, senior Lizzie Litwak (Loudonville, N.Y./Albany Academy for Girls) led Denison with fourth-place finishes. In the three-meter, Litwak totaled 192.22 points and in the one-meter she tallied a score of 168.08.
Denison will return to action next Friday (Jan. 14) when they host Wittenberg University at 6 p.m.
