The Denison University men's swimming and diving team picked up a convincing 133-53 victory over Malone College on Friday evening in Granville.
The Big Red opened the dual meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay. The group of Robert Barry (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's School), Jake Lewing (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury), Kyle Chabot (Washington, Mich./Stoney Creek) and Mike Barczak (Beverly Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) completed the event in 1:36.94. Also logging first-place finishes were seniors Callan Hetterich (Denver, Colo./Regis Jesuit) and Cody Smith (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford). Hetterich finished the 200 free in 1:47.14, while Smith accumulated 305.93 points in the 1-meter dive.
The sophomore trio of Jay Haney (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy), Joe Katich (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales) and Quinn Bartlett (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) all recorded wins in their respective events. Haney touched in at 2:05.13 in the 200 fly, while Katich and Bartlett posted times of 21.88 and 48.40 in the 50 and 100 free events.
Freshmen Jackson Humphrey (Westerville, Ohio/Columbus Academy), Pat Lombardi (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista) and Merritt Boardman (Burlington, Vt./Rice Memorial) rounded out the Denison winners. Humphrey took first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.60. Lombardi claimed victory in the 100 breast with a mark of 1:07.11, while Boardman was victorious in the 200 back (2:01.74).
DU returns to the pool on Saturday (Jan. 29) when they host Carnegie Mellon at 1 p.m.
