Robert Barry (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) won two events and posted an NCAA automatic qualifying time in the 100 backstroke as the Denison Big Red handed Grove City College at 169-124 defeat. The win improves Denison's dual meet record to 4-3.
DU notched nine wins against the Wolverines and Barry was one of three multi-event winners. Aside from his 'A' cut time of 50.04 in the 100 backstroke, Barry also posted a 'B' cut in the 200 back with a time of 1:51.48.
Following Barry with a pair of wins was first-year Al Weik (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) and junior Mike Barczak (Beverly Hills, Mich./Brother Rice). Barczak swept the 50 free and the 100 free while Weik took first in the 500 free and the 1000 free. Barczak touched in 21.46 in the 50 free and 47.31 in the 100 free.
Also earning victories for DU was Dan Thurston (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) in the 200 free in 1:44.45. Denison also swept both diving events as sophomore Gabe Dixson (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) won the three-meter dive with a score of 346.58. In the one-meter competition, Cody Smith (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) prevailed with a score of 321.98.
Denison will return to action on Friday (Jan. 28) when they host Malone College.
