The Denison men's swimming and diving team closed out their North Coast Athletic Conference schedule with a 168-103 victory over the Tigers of Wittenberg University on Friday evening in Granville, Ohio.
Big Red junior Mike Barczak (Beverly Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) led Denison with three wins, while seniors Jake Lewing (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and Kyle Chabot (Washington, Mich./Stoney Creek), and freshman Spencer Fronk (Cherry Hills Village, Colo./Cherry Creek) all notched two wins each. Individually, Barczak won the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.54, and swam the final leg of both the 200 medley (1:35.51) and freestyle (1:26.07) relays.
Joining Barczak on the 200 medley relay were junior Michael DeSantis (Beverly Hills, Mich./Groves), Lewing and Chabot, while Chabot, Fronk and senior Andrew Krawchyk (Severna Park, Md./East Chapel Hill [N.C.]) were the other three members of the 200 freestyle foursome. Lewing and Fronk also won individual titles in the 100 breast (1:00.96) and 100 free (47.43), respectively.
Other DU winners included senior Cody Smith (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford), juniors Robert Barry (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's School) and Dan Thurston (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron), sophomore Jay Haney (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) and rookie Brad Ratliff (Eldersburg, Md./Century). Smith accumulated 317.63 points en route to winning the 1-meter dive, while Barry touched in at 52.13 to capture the 100 back crown. Thurston finished first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:58.94, while Haney won the 1,000 free (10:03.71) and Ratliff was victorious in the 200 free (1:46.96).
Denison returns to the pool next Saturday (Jan. 22) at Grove City College. Events are scheduled to being at 1 p.m.
