The No. 10 Big Red opened the game with nine straight goals which would eventually result in a 19-4 victory over Oberlin College on Wednesday evening from Deeds Field-Piper Stadium. The Big Red improve to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with the victory.
Denison outshot the Yeomen 58-19 and 11 different players scored at least one goal. Senior face-off specialist Connor Detjen (Winnetka, Ill./Loyola Academy) was 9-for-17 in face-offs. He also scored his first goal of the season in the third quarter and added two assists and four ground balls. As a team, the Big Red scooped up 44 ground balls as Detjen and Cy Ryan (Palm Beach, Fla./Westminster School) led the way with four apiece.
Gregg Shannon (Lindenhurst, N.Y./St. Anthony's) got the victory in goal for Denison. He played 35 minutes and posted two saves. Patrick Cuff (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) and Dan Wallace (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) split the remaining 25 minutes of play. Oberlin goalie Jon Weisburst played all 60 minutes and finished with 12 saves.
