The Denison men's tennis team picked up a pair of victories on Saturday in Crawfordsville, Ind. The Big Red opened the day with a 9-0 win over Wabash College, and followed that up with a 5-1 decision over Calvin College.
Sophomores Tom Cawood (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) and Matt McErlean (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) , and senior Adam Seeley (West Hartford, Conn./William H. Hall) all notched double victories. Cawood racked up a pair of 6-1, 6-0 win, while McErlean also posted straight-set victories. Seeley notched a three-set nod (6-1, 4-6, 10-6) against the Little Giants, and logged a 6-1, 6-1 decision Philip Reinken of Calvin. The doubles team of McErlean and junior Nate Hobrath (Strongsville, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) also registered a pair of wins. The duo posted an 8-5 nod over Wabash, and recorded an 8-2 victory in the Calvin match.
Also logging straight-set singles victories in the match with the Little Giants were Hobrath, Evan Verbofsky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area), and Jared Connolly (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest). In doubles action, Tim Martin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) and Connolly knocked off Wabash's Peter Gunderman and Ricky Ritter, 8-3, while Seeley and Cawood edged the Little Giants' Ian Leonard and Zach Lowry 9-7. Cawood teamed with Verbofsky to knock off Jon Goorhouse and Andrew De Vlieger of Calvin via 8-4 decision.
DU improves to 11-1 overall and finished North Coast Athletic Conference play with a perfect 4-0 record. Denison returns to the court on Tuesday (April 6) when they host Case Western Reserve University at 4 p.m.
