No. 7 Wooster ends Big Red winning streak

The No. 7 Wooster Fighting Scots scored four runs in the fourth inning and added three more in the bottom of the seventh resulting in a 10-2 victory over the Denison Big Red on Thursday afternoon from Art Murray Field.

The Big Red entered the game winners of six-straight and fresh off last night's North Coast Athletic Conference West Division title clinching sweep of Earlham.

In the top of the first inning, junior third baseman Matt Forgatch (San Marino, Calif./San Marino) hit his first career home run over the wall in left field, giving Denison an early 1-0 lead.

The Scots would end up scoring one run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-2 lead into the fourth inning.  That's where the Scots pieced together four runs off four hits, the biggest being a two-run single by senior Luke Sutton, which scored Chris Wood and Michael Wellstead.

Denison starter Nick Smith (Mirror Lake, N.H./Holderness School) allowed seven runs (six earned) in three innings. First-year Danny Kraus (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) provided three scoreless innings of relief.  The victory went to Wooster reliever Tanner Hall who gave up only one hit in 2.2 innings pitched.

Forgatch and sophomore David Baskin (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) led Denison at the plate, going 2-for-4.  Baskin accounted for Denison's second run via an RBI double in the third inning.

Denison will return to the field next Thursday when they open play at the 2010 NCAC Tournament from VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.  The start time and opponent are to be determined.
